Built to Last

You won’t find this design in the 2014 range. That’s because it was installed 36 years ago. It’s still easy to live with – and works as well as ever. However, having taken the decision to extend the kitchen, the owners will finally be replacing this faithful servant with another Poggenpohl kitchen.

The owners of this suburban detached property that was built between the wars have lived here since 1972. They took the decision to install a Poggenpohl kitchen in 1977. From that day to this, the kitchen has been the centre of family life and the most-used room in the house. In the years that the owners have lived here, their two children were born, grew up, arrived at adulthood and moved away. Now they come back with the grandchildren, and life still focuses on the kitchen. Although the appliances have been updated, the units have needed nothing more than some new door hinges, which were supplied and fitted within the last couple of years - a clear demonstration of Poggenpohl’s service and support throughout a lifetime of service. Recently the owners decided to extend the ground floor and commission a new kitchen in the extended area.

They had firm ideas about what they wanted: units of comparable quality to the Poggenpohl kitchen that had served them so well for 36 years. They wanted the design of the new kitchen to have clean lines and a good range of interior fittings, plus state-of-the-art appliances. Before making their decision they considered other brands and visited several kitchen showrooms. However, their experience with Poggenpohl plus the helpful suggestions of the designer at the Guildford Poggenpohl showroom helped clinch the decision for the owners. By the time this book is published, the kitchen shown here will be gone – replaced by a new Poggenpohl kitchen on a more spacious floor area. Here’s to the next 36 years!
