Dwell Magazine recently featured a story by Iain Aitch about a quirky 1970s house in the English countryside showcasing an amazing 40 year old mahogany-panelled Poggenpohl kitchen. Discover here some details about this amazing story.
In a very interesting article written by Iain Aitch with absolutely overwhelming photographs by Christopher Sturman , published in online and print version of the Dwell Magazine , which presents the story of a British design pioneer Mr. Coakley founder of UK furniture retailer and manufacturer SCP who transforms the 1970s bachelor pad , located an hour outside London , into the laboratory furniture stylish. The house is located on a 25-acre site and it sat unsold on the property for two years before the couple discovered it. According to its new owner “It’s a pretty masculine kind of a house”. Its interesting architecture captures our attention and leads us back to the 70s at a glance. The areas are relatively small but very quirky and the layout of the house he is also very special, probably for that reason the home stayed on the market for so long. “Fortunately, Coakley’s own wife, Louise Jenkins, is a huge fan of the home’s design, from the original tiled Poggenpohl kitchen to the stables and solid outbuildings that surround the main body of what is essentially a three-bedroom with add-ons.”
The mahogany-paneled Poggenpohl kitchen system is original to the house. It opens to the living and dining area. “That kitchen’s pretty astonishing really, considering it’s 40 years old,” says Jenkins to Dwell Magazine. “It’s a kind of balancing act of keeping the old stuff going and then knowing which bits to replace.” One wall in the kitchen is taken up with her vast cookbook collection, which sits upon thoroughly modern Michael Marriott shelving.
And the article goes on explaining all the premises of this project and the choices of its new owner in regards to the decoration of this space. This property aims to serve as a museum exhibiting SCP furniture pieces and thus demonstrate how these can easily combine within a space.
For Poggenpohl this article proves once again the level of quality of its kitchens and materials, not to mention the design and functionality of the same despite its 4 decades of existence. Stories like these are a source of inspiration to our craftsmen and women at our production facility in Herford, Germany, incorporating all the passion and dedication for the brand in every stroke of each and every new kitchen dispatched around the world to its new owners.
