History of innovation. In 1892 Friedemir Poggenpohl set up a small furniture company and showroom. His aim? ‘To improve the kitchen’. And ever since, generations of Poggenpohl craftsmen and designers have done exactly that.

Made in Germany. Poggenpohl has been making kitchens since 1892, and our worldwide reputation is based on our refusal to accept anything other than the best, whether in materials or workmanship. At our factory in Herford, East-Westphalia, we combine the best of traditional craftsmanship with the precision of modern engineering. All our kitchens are carefully crafted and inspected before being despatched around the world to their new owners. Many of our craftsmen and women learned their skills as apprentices and now in turn pass their experience and knowledge on to the next generation of Poggenpohl craftspeople.

Innovation

At Poggenpohl, we have been in the forefront of a revolution in interior planning for over 125 years, removing the barriers between kitchen and living rooms to create an environment that is both inviting and logically laid-out. We work with leading designers and organisations to reinvent the kitchen, enabling our customers to use the space for cooking, relaxing and interacting with others in a more rewarding and creative way. With Poggenpohl, the kitchen is no longer just a place to cook – it’s a living space.

Pioneering ideas. Poggenpohl has constantly reinvented the kitchen and the way it’s used. The company was the first to introduce a white kitchen at a time when the traditional designs of its rivals were in dark wood; a bold step that made the space feel more inviting, clean and fresh. Later, the kitchen island – another Poggenpohl innovation - gave a new dynamism to the kitchen space, encouraging the whole family to use it for informal dining or interacting with each other.

International acclaim. Poggenpohl designs and ranges have amassed many international awards through the decades, a reflection of more than 125 years of design innovation. Timeless design, attention to detail and enduring quality have given Poggenpohl a global reputation. Awards and accolades confirm the company’s pre-eminence; a Poggenpohl kitchen represents a fusion of form with function that transcends fashion.

Holistic quality approach

Unsurpassed quality. There are many good reasons for choosing a Poggenpohl kitchen. These include the wide choice of finishes and materials; enduring construction; made to measure individuality; and the highest standards of quality.

Yet there is ultimately a single, overriding reason why: our customers can be sure that they will get the very best from us. The very best quality, the longest life and the very best of support. A Poggenpohl kitchen is an investment for life.

Craftsmanship. It’s the details of craftsmanship that set Poggenpohl apart, evidence of the skills and perfectionist ethos of our craftsmen and women. The carefully smoothed and hand-sanded finish that creates our famous mirror-finish high gloss lacquer surfaces. The immaculate alignment of doors, drawers and worktops. We marry traditional craftsmanship with the best of modern technology for a kitchen that will be a pleasure to touch, use and work in. Now, and for years to come.

Flawless finish. In the 1930s Poggenpohl introduced a ten-layer polished lacquer technique that achieved a remarkable depth of shine. This gave us a reputation for uncompromising excellence that continues to this day. The Poggenpohl high-gloss lacquer surface demands perfectionist preparation. The mirror-finish gloss has to be flawless in every way, reflecting light and giving a stunning effect upon the finished cabinets.

Renowned expertise. Poggenpohl craftsmanship is famous throughout the world. Many of our skilled craftsmen and women have been with us since joining the company as apprentices, and now in turn help to pass on their expertise and skills to the next generation. This depth of skill across the company means we can make the best use of modern materials and technology and turns the ordinary into the exceptional.

Innovation with tradition. At Poggenpohl, our techniques unite the best of modern technology with time-hallowed craft skills. State of the art computer-controlled cutting and milling equipment ensures absolute precision time after time, yet every finished Poggenpohl kitchen is also the result of hand craftsmanship. Naturally, testing and quality control ensure that every stage of the process is up to perfectionist standards. For each of our customers, the result is a bespoke kitchen made to unsurpassed standards.

Built to Last

Poggenpohl expects its kitchens to work faultlessly for decades after installation. So from our drawer runners to door hinges, we build our kitchens to last. At our production facility in Herford, Germany, we aim for unsurpassed quality in every detail, down to the smooth, seamless hand-finish on doors and surfaces.

Proven durability. Our drawers are renowned for their strength and the ability to withstand a lifetime of hard use. The materials we use to create them are enormously strong, as are the jointing techniques we employ. Even the concealed runners beneath the drawer use roller bearings instead of ball bearings, as this means longer life and a smoother glide for years longer than an ordinary drawer. Every aspect of a Poggenpohl kitchen reveals the same perfectionist approach.

Lifetime Service. When a customer takes delivery of a Poggenpohl kitchen that’s the beginning, not the end of the relationship. We provide a personalised service card which is our clients’ passport to a lifetime of support and care. It’s the customer’s proof that we have all the details of their kitchen on record, so that in future any additional cabinets or replacement components can be provided via their Poggenpohl studio. We have supplied replacement door hinges for Poggenpohl kitchens built over four decades ago – and even earlier.

Custom Made

A Poggenpohl kitchen is built to order. Our designers start with a blank sheet of paper – and the customer’s brief. The home, tastes and way of life of each client is considered before our skilled designers begin to create a kitchen that is precisely designed for the space and the people who will use it. Every cabinet, drawer and worktop is built to the precise dimensions of the customer's home at our factory in Herford, right down to the last millimetre of space. That’s why every Poggenpohl kitchen is as individual as our customers are.

Customised perfection. We have made Poggenpohl kitchens for all kinds of homes in over 70 countries around the world. Whatever the size and architecture of the built environment, our designers start with a clean sheet of paper and work from there, taking full account of the space and the customer’s preferred design theme to create a unique, individual kitchen. Whatever the brief, we aim for perfection.

Endless possibilities. The wide range of materials, finishes and colours available in the Poggenpohl range, combined with the bespoke production of every cabinet, means that no two Poggenpohl kitchens will ever be the same. As well as our own ranges of finishes and shades, which are inspired by natural coloursPoggenpohl also offers a bespoke colour matching service for any colour defined in the RAL and NCS colour ranges. The possibilities are infinite.

Made to measure. Whatever the dimensions of a customer’s kitchen, we make our cabinets and worktops to fit – precisely. After all, rooms are rarely a standard, exact length, width or height so Poggenpohl’s ability to make bespoke cabinets to precise dimensions eliminates awkward gaps or wasted corners. This means that every millimetre of space in a kitchen is put to good use, for a calm, logical and enjoyable cooking and living environment.

Detailed Perfection

With Poggenpohl, the closer one looks, the more there is to admire. A Poggenpohl kitchen is remarkable both for its innovative design and the perfectionist care that goes into every detail. We use a combination of advanced German engineering and the kind of individual attention that can only come from skilled craftsmanship. The result is a kitchen that is outstanding in every way, built for individuals who demand the very best.

Smart solutions. Our drawer runners are positioned beneath the drawer itself, maximising interior space and enabling more items to be stored within it. To make the best use of this space, Poggenpohl offers a wide range of options for cutlery, spices, utensils, and host of other purposes.

+MOTION Poggenpohl aims to provide its customers with delight in every detail. The +MOTION closing mechanism makes using your Poggenpohl kitchen a daily pleasure. A gentle touch is all that is required for the drawers and pull-outs to return to the closed position quickly and quietly.

Light and clear. Interior lights for drawer units that switch on automatically when the drawer is opened provide bright and clear illumination, even in the furthest corners. This thoughtful design detail saves time and bother when searching for little-used items at the back of a drawer.

Strength with flexibility. The adjustable shelves feature solid metal supports that can stand up to immense loads of up to 50 kilogrammes per square metre – far more than the heaviest crockery, pans or appliances could ever place on them. The innovative locking mechanism in solid steel locks the shelf into place so that it adds to the strength of the cabinet, yet customers can alter the position of the shelves as their storage needs change. Our cabinets also feature solid back panels, so they are able to stand up to a lifetime’s use.

Hinges. At Poggenpohl , even the hinges are a marvel of engineering. Adjustable in three planes, they allow doors to be perfectly aligned. High-strength metal and a thicker pivot pin mean that they’ll stand up to a lifetime’s use.

Height of ingenuity. If required, our designers can include cabinet storage space for less frequently used items right the way up to ceiling height. To access these items, an ingenious compact step ladder can be stored in a cabinet plinth, helping you to make the best use of available space.

Magnetic attraction. Powerful magnets hold the plinth panels in position, giving the base units a finishing touch of visual continuity from floor to worktop. Yet they detach easily, without the need for tools, for access and to facilitate cleaning. It’s this kind of attention to detail that sets Poggenpohl apart.

Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. As a company with over 125 years of achievements behind us, we take our responsibility for future generations very seriously. Today, Poggenpohl not only follows the strict environmental guidelines, but goes even further. Poggenpohl products are exclusively made from wood grown by sustainable forest management and all the paints and lacquers used in production are solvent-free.

All Poggenpohl products are manufactured exclusively in the German town of Herford. Around 80% of the company's suppliers are also located in the region, enabling us to closely monitor their ecological standards and for materials to be transported with minimal environmental impact.

Since January 2012 all the electricity used in the Herford factory has come from renewable hydro-electric generation, reducing the company's carbon footprint by 2000 tonnes of CO2 every year. We are currently installing a thermal power station on site to further reduce our CO2 emissions.

As a company with a long history of innovation, Poggenpohl is constantly looking for new and better ways of making enduring furniture with a reduction in environmental impact as a high priority. One of our recent developments, the P′7340 Design by Studio F. A. Porsche, features an innovative carcass based on a honeycomb board. As a result, 40% less material is required, reducing weight for transportation, without any reduction in the strength and durability for which Poggenpohl is famed.
