Autumn Interior Design Trends 2024

Autumn Interior Design Trends 2024

As we look towards the latter part of 2024, we are seeing a continuation of the resurgence of neutral tones. The press shows are all happening right now showcasing what’s ahead for the next two seasons, and it’s full of naturally inspired earthy hues of greens, creams and browns. Accent colours of burnt orange and reds are looking increasingly popular, and are filling the fashion catwalks too.

Kitchen design trends are emphasising both functionality and style, blending modern technology with a nod to vintage aesthetics. Sustainability remains a key focus, with recycled materials being at the forefront of consumer desires. Of course, buying a brand that offers longevity both in terms of quality but also in style, is a great way to ensure you are not being wasteful when purchasing a new kitchen.

Ultra-thin countertops provide a sleek, minimalist look while maintaining durability thanks to advancements in material technology. You can be clever with worktop heights; shown here, the same display from the front and back has a different thickness on each visible edge. The overall worktop height remains the same but is thinner on the working side, maximising storage in the cabinets, whilst providing a more substantial design statement on the seating side. The Poggenpohl +SEGMENTO design concept, seen here, allows for this without impacting the leg space for seating.

According to Homes & Gardens Magazine, for those who love a bit of drama, adding high-impact lighting fixtures are a great way to add focal points to the kitchen. These bold elements add texture, shape, and an air of sophistication, ensuring that the kitchen is not just a place for cooking but also a space for socialising and entertaining.

Choosing integrated high-tech appliances, including those with Wi-Fi connectivity is certainly seeing an increase in popularity for those seeking to modernise their kitchens, although often in a very subtle way. Smart furniture and home accessories that blend technology with aesthetics, with innovations including smart mirrors, electrically adjustable seating and lighting systems that enhance the user experience through technological integration are all readily available now and can be specified into your kitchen design.

Scalloped edges, waves and curves (like this detail under the bar seating area) all remain popular styles, and can lift a space, offering a more feminine, relaxed atmosphere. When styling a kitchen, it’s a great idea to consider what will last the test of time when it comes to the furniture, worktops and flooring, but then allow yourself to be governed by trends that go in and out of fashion with less expensive accessories like trays, cushions and throws. Bringing red into your space this Autumn will definitely be on trend. Or perhaps add a few antique items, to celebrate traditional craftsmanship, adding unique and personalised touches to interiors with meticulously crafted pieces.

Functional design continues to be paramount, with open-concept layouts and larger kitchen islands allowing for more flexibility in use. Low dining or informal seating is reflecting a shift towards more casual social interactions within the main space of the kitchen and dining area. Shown here, having tiered seating against an island, allows for conversation to continue while cooking and clearing away.

A kitchen, very much as the heart of the home, needs to be aesthetically pleasing and reflective of personal style, ensuring that it can be both functional and fashionable. Adding soft furnishings is a must going into Autumn Winter. Cushions, throws, armchairs etc should all be given space to soften the otherwise sterile environment and offer comfortable, relaxed seating for guests, with textures like Boucle still high on the wish list and offered across soft furnishing design houses.

These trends reflect a holistic approach to interior design, blending environmental consciousness, technological innovation, and a vibrant, playful aesthetic to create spaces that are both functional and inspiring.
