Partners 4 Design designed a kitchen for PLaN Architecture that made their dream of owning a Poggenpohl kitchen a reality

The concept of the 530 House was simple with three types of spaces; family space, guest space and shared space. PLaN Architecture’s Lisa and Nathan Kalaher, designed it for themselves and their two young sons with an open plan that’s welcoming, yet maintains privacy. Family space consists of bedrooms and a private deck. Guest space consists of a guest living area and a separate patio. The shared space between the family and the guests are the Poggenpohl kitchen, great room and the additional shared patio located on the main level of the home.

“We created the kitchen for this award-winning husband and wife architect team who really wanted Poggenpohl,” states Nicole Sirek, Senior Project Manager for Partners 4 Design. “Budget was a concern, as it always is, but in the end we were able to realize their dream of owning a Poggenpohl kitchen. Making this kitchen a reality for them was a highlight for all of us.”

Poggenpohl completes the modern aesthetic for the 530 House and adds to its unique features as the minimal white cabinet design, is offset by warm wood flooring. The site consists of a natural environmental connection with a large manicured lawn that is surrounded by a tall prairie overlooking the Missouri River.

The name, “530 House” comes from the exceptional approach the architects’ took to paint a large ‘530’ on an interior wall that is effortlessly visible from the outside. The number not only gives the house individuality, but it fulfills the community requirement to show the number of the home. The couples’ home is both transparent and opaque. Where the large windows are present, at night the number is exposed to the streets. This area as well as the family room upstairs above the number is a very public area as opposed to the rest of the house, which consists of small windows and privacy.
