Poggenpohl Manchester

Shropshire kitchen

For a family of six who entertain a lot the brief was for a practical kitchen that would look good but stand up to wear and tear. The family wanted a contemporary look and therefore chose Poggenpohl.

Designer Jon Andrews created a 6m long island with stainless steel worktop and white quartz breakfast bar. He says, "The long island makes best use of the space and provides ample worksurface. The long run of wall units might have appeared bulky, so we recessed them into a specially designed feature.

"Large rooms require lots of interest to prevent them looking bland. Here we complemented the steel worksurface and Gaggenau appliances with tall cabinets in teak to add warmth, we also introduced opaque glass wall cabinets and beige gloss base units to lift the look."

Pure and simple

This handsome Edwardian house was being extended at the back to create a light-filled open plan kitchen and living area. The client asked Jon Andrews at Poggenpohl Manchester to design a kitchen that was in keeping with the contemporary nature of the new extension and as they enjoy cooking and entertaining the design had to be functional too with lots of work surface, built-in appliances and storage.

Jon created a streamlined 6m run of wall units that conceals an old chimney breast and houses the fridge freezer, ovens and larder. The island creates a cooking zone and divides the kitchen from the living space. To keep the design simple, clean and precise the units are handle-less in matt white and matt black.

Minimal, Modern Kitchen

This striking extension to a family home in Lytham St Annes required a minimal, modern kitchen, so the client turned to Jon Andrews at Poggenpohl Manchester. Jon suggested units in high gloss white with glacier Corian worktops plus Gaggenau and Miele appliances. The client specified that they wanted to maintain the open feel of the extension but with a wow factor so the design focuses round an outsize island creating a strong focal point while being practical too. Open shelves and clever lighting add a personal touch.
